Watch on YouTubeThe Manaslu Circuit loops around the eighth-highest mountain in the world, but what stays with you are the villages. The trail starts in green, humid valleys along the Budhi Gandaki river and slowly climbs into the Nubri region, where houses are built of stone and the culture is closely tied to Tibetan Buddhism.
Things the vlog doesn’t fully show
- Manaslu is a restricted area, so you need a special permit and a licensed guide. Plan this before you arrive.
- The Larkya La pass is above 5,100 metres. Give yourself proper acclimatisation days around Samagaun.
- Teahouses get simpler the higher you go. Carry snacks, a warm sleeping bag and patience.
The best moment of the trek wasn’t the pass. It was an evening in a family kitchen in Samagaun, sitting by the fire while the grandmother explained, half in gestures, how the village prepares for winter.
