Into the Waterfall Forests

Monsoon turns the hills into a world of mist, moss and falling water. A photo essay from the green season.

Many travellers avoid the monsoon. I understand why — leeches, landslides and grey skies are real. But the green season also brings a version of the hills that few people see: rivers at full strength, waterfalls everywhere and forests so green they almost glow.

Travelling in the green season

  • Keep plans flexible — roads close and reopen quickly.
  • Pack quick-dry clothes, a rain cover for your bag and dry bags for electronics.
  • Lower trails are often the best choice; mountain views are rare until autumn.

Go slowly, stay safe, and you’ll come home with photos nobody else has.
