What’s in My Camera Bag

The cameras, lenses, audio and small accessories that come on every shoot — and why each one earned its place.

I get asked about gear more than anything else. The honest answer is that the camera matters less than you think. But a well-chosen kit does make long days easier, so here’s what I carry and why.

The essentials

  • Camera: a mirrorless body that handles low light well.
  • Lenses: one wide-to-standard zoom for most scenes, one fast prime for interviews and night.
  • Audio: an on-camera shotgun mic and a wireless lavalier.
  • Support: a light tripod and a compact gimbal.
  • Power & storage: spare batteries, a power bank, fast cards and two backup drives.
The one thing I’d buy firstA good microphone. Viewers forgive soft footage, but they rarely stay through bad sound.
