My Editing Workflow: From Raw Footage to Final Cut

How a trip becomes a video: logging, the paper edit, rough cut, colour and sound.

People see the finished video. They don’t see the folders, the notes and the three versions that didn’t work. Here’s the process I follow for every vlog and documentary.

  1. Organise and log. Every clip goes into a folder by day and location, and I mark the moments that made me feel something.
  2. Paper edit. I write the story on paper first: beginning, turning point, ending.
  3. Rough cut. Story only, no music, no colour. If it works like this, it’ll work later.
  4. Music and sound. Natural sound first, then music to support it, never to cover it.
  5. Colour and titles. A consistent look so the whole channel feels like one journey.
Most of a film is made here, not on location.
