“Which trek should I do?” is the question I’m asked most. The honest answer: it depends on your time, fitness and what you want to see. Here’s a simple way to think about it.
| Level | Length | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | 2–5 days | First-timers and families. Lower hills, villages and big mountain views without high altitude. |
| Moderate | 6–12 days | Reasonably fit walkers. Longer days, some altitude, and a real sense of journey. |
| Hard | 12+ days | Experienced trekkers. High passes, remote areas, restricted-area permits and serious acclimatisation. |
Questions to ask yourself
- How many days do I really have, including buffer days for weather?
- Do I want mountains, culture, or both?
- Am I comfortable with basic teahouses and cold nights?
- Do I prefer busy trails with services, or quiet trails with fewer comforts?
Whatever you choose, go with a local guide, start slower than you think you need to, and remember the trek you finish happily is better than the famous one you rush.
