Getting sick on the road can cost you days. Most problems are avoidable with a few simple habits. This isn’t medical advice — always talk to a doctor or travel clinic before your trip — but these are the things that work for me.
- Water: drink treated or filtered water only, and keep drinking even when it’s cold.
- Food: eat freshly cooked, hot food. Busy local places are usually the safest.
- Hands: carry soap or sanitiser and use it before every meal.
- Sleep: protect it. A tired body gets sick faster.
- Rest days: schedule them, especially on long trips.
- First-aid kit: plasters, rehydration salts and any personal medicines.
